This show required a careful balance of live performance considerations for the performers versus the needs of the televised broadcast. We received an Emmy for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety Series or Special for our work on this show.

    This live telecast combines complex live dancing and video production elements. The specific needs of a wide range of A-list artists must be carefully accommodated to ensure their ease for a compressed rehearsal, while still serving the needs of the on-air broadcast.

    The Tonys is a high energy, fast paced live award show, with no margin for error, when delivering great audio to 6000 fans in the iconic Radio City Music Hall.

    During COVID, we were tasked with recreating the crowd experience for both the NBA players and the TV audience. We created all the crowd content, and we were responsible for its implementation within the NBA “bubble”. Creating a truly realistic attended game environment.

    We began our work with The Late Show with David Letterman. We have continued with Stephen Colbert and have helped his creative team restore the Ed Sullivan theater to its original state.

    We support the Pops subscription season handling audio, as well as stage production, mixing all shows and interfacing with all guest artists. We also handle their summer series at Forest Hills Stadium.

    The audio design is integral to the success of these events. We must meet the unique challenges of these outdoor events by creating a design that serves both the stadium gear and the TV audience with crisp clear audio. All while battling the weather.

    We have done this show for several consecutive years. The range of artists and their requirements is a complex mixture of genres. We also mastered the audio for the video playback in the house for optimal quality in the arena.

    There were major challenges in the design of this presidential debate at the historic Gaillard Center. The PA not only had to deliver great sounding dialog but needed to work visually with the décor of the historic hall and the director’s scenic vision.

    America’s Big Deal was a limited run TV show, shot on location in the historic Newark Symphony Hall. Delivering intelligible dialog to a large audience, in a space built with reverberation times meant for an orchestra, required careful planning and execution.

    Mixing the Tony Awards is a high profile and demanding assignment. Doing it in times of COVID, with continually changing artist needs and distancing requirements, made this event particularly challenging and rewarding.

    This off-Broadway musical featured an all-female cast and band, running is both New York City and Chicago. The show presented unique audio design challenges by having the band onstage with the actors, while seamlessly integrating video and sound effect components.

    This exhibit benefited costume artists of the theater industry who were hit hard during the Covid shutdown. We designed a coherent sound delivery system throughout the space, mixed interview segments, and created a soundscape to accompany the mobile hanging in the entrance.

    This two-man vaudevillian style show was a sound design challenge with extremely physical interactions between the actors, song and dance, a torrential weather reenactment on stage and even a pie in the face.

    World renowned artists donated their time and talents to this worthy cause. It took weeks of careful planning to coordinate the wide variety of audio needs and contingencies necessary to ensure a flawless concert.

    The official re-opening concert in Central Park, featured the New York Philharmonic with the Sonic Designs team mixing FOH. Amplifying an orchestra through a rock and roll sound system takes careful work.
